As Dreamers Do Part Deux

Entertainment News for Mid October 2009

Attorneys for former child actor Johanna Thomas have filed a multimillion dollar defamation lawsuit against controversial comedian Roseanne Barr. In recent years, Barr has come under fire for a standup routine that critics say Barr deliberately misrepresented, misgendered and "deadnamed" Thomas on multiple stops of her 2008 standup tour. The suit is expected to go to trial in April of next year.
- NBC Nightly News with Katie Couric

"I don't know how Roseanne could possibly attack me like this. Her show ran on ABC at the same time that I was on Home Improvement. We were both part of the TGIF lineup. It feels like she's taking shots at me because we somehow stole her thunder when our series launched."
- Johanna Thomas in an interview conducted by Anderson Cooper on CNN on UPN.

Shout! Factory, in collaboration with Limited Run, have released the 1974 Nancy Drew animated series on VHS, DVD and BluRay. The series, which ran briefly on SBC, drew criticism for what many deemed was unnecessary fanservice. The controversy nearly sank the SBC network, which was in its infancy at the time of the show's launch.

TimeWarner enters negotiations with AB InBev to acquire SeaWorld. The beer giant has seen its stock price tumble amid news of layoffs stemming from the sale of Anheuser-Busch to Belgian power brokers.
- The St. Louis Post-Dispatch

The Seminole Tribe of Florida, who acquired the Hard Rock hotel and cafe chain in recent years, have agreed in principle to acquire Busch Gardens Tampa Bay from AB InBev. Not to be outdone, the Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut announced their intention to acquire Lake Compounce Theme Park from New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft. Both transactions are being hailed as milestones in Native American entrepreneurship.

The World League of American Football approves the sale of the Hartford Knights from Howard Baldwin to the Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut for $300 Million USD, the highest price tag for any World League team since David Geffen's expansion fee for the Berlin Ogres in 2006 and the sale of the Portland Breakers to Limited Run investor Chris Hansen two years ago.

Wrexham AFC, a lower-tier, Welsh soccer team that has languished in mediocrity for decades, are up for sale. Desperate for cash flow, they are seeking buyers from outside of Great Britain.

Fifteen years removed from their World Series upset over the Guardians, the Montreal Expos are rumored to be considering relocation. Since 1994, season tickets have declined 38%. Olympic Stadium, the Expos home since 1977, has admittedly lost some of its luster. Baseball Commissioner Larry Lucchino says he prefers the Expos stay put in Montreal. If Olympic Stadium is unable to be renovated or replaced, Las Vegas, Nashville or Charlotte could become the Expos' new home as early as 2014.

IOTL, these renderings were for a ballpark that was proposed in 2002 near Lake Merritt, but of course, never materialized.

After the A's get settled in their new digs, the attention will then shift to the WLAF Condors. San Jose or Sacramento could try to lure them, but expect Commissioner Oliver Luck to try to keep the Condors in Oakland first.
Maybe a stadium on the IOTL Levi’s Stadium site in Santa Clara possibly? Or on the Howard Terminal site? Either way, both Sacramento and San Jose would make good homes as well.

Statement from Tiffany Disney on Johanna Thomas's defamation lawsuit against Roseanne Barr

"I've known Johanna since her days as a teen heartthrob. Johanna has always been supportive of me whenever I myself have been targeted by conservative commentators. The views expressed by Ms. Barr concerning Johanna's gender affirmation journey are hateful, repugnant and harmful."

In Louisville, the right-wing Society for Highly Informative Television stages a protest at the offices of Kentucky Educational Television (KET) and PBS affiliate WKPC-TV after the airing of an episode of Cartooning Made Easy with Blanche Boudreaux in which former teen idol Johanna Thomas - once known as Jonathan Taylor Thomas - appeared as a special guest.

An audit reveals that New Orleans taxpayers will still be on the hook until August of 2023 for a $278 million settlement awarded to New Line Cinema after the city's police department botched its investigation into a June 1990 incident at the New Orleans Holiday Inn in which then-12 year old Gus St. Pierre's table reading for Terminator 2: Judgment Day was disrupted by his mother Bridgette.

World Championship Wrestling (WCW) has been fined $3 million USD by the FCC over an uncensored, profanity-laced tirade launched by announcer Jim Cornette during an XYZ airing of WCW Monday Nitro. Of all the extra things ON1988 could have been connected to ITTL, I should have expected Tiffany-hating to be one of them. But then again, I didn't expect him to be talked about too much at all.

On a more positive note... what company are the Toaruverse series gonna be dubbed by ITTL? I'm sorry for bugging you so much about this, but I need to know. Also, which company or companies do you plan to dub Shakugan no Shana, if it hasn't already been dubbed yet ITTL? And what's Pretty Cure been dubbed by, if at all?

I also have a plan for a couple TTL-exclusive series.

The first one is an anime called Maou Phenomena. It's a deconstruction of the magical girl genre, and it's about this girl named Akai Tsukino who wields a massive magical laser cannon, among other things, and fights the Demon King and his numerous servants, unbeknownst to her of the evil conspiracy that's been right under her nose. She is joined by two friends named Mizu Momomiya and Chikyuu Takamachi.

This show could have at least 30 episodes, and we could have Fox dub it and distribute it ITTL, and it could air on FX's Anime Dojo block, or on a similar block, if need be.

The other one is a reboot of Captain N: The Game Master (if that even exists ITTL). This one is more mature than the 80's series, and features (at least somewhat) more accurate depictions of video game characters, and is also a more mature series, though if you want, I could make it just kid-friendly enough to get it a SATAM slot on CBS.

Whadaya say, @OldNavy1988?

Last year at Lavell Edwards Stadium, the BYU student section threw a lot of ableist and anti-LGBT shade at Tiffany during a football game against her alma mater San Diego State. A lot of the chanting was obscene enough for ESPN 2 to mute the crowd noise on their telecast.

This year at Jack in the Box Stadium in Mission Valley, the SDSU Aztecs went out and beat the BYU Cougars 96 to 35.

Metro-Goldwyn-Manga? You bet!
Paramount will dub Toaruverse as its first MGM dub.

Captain N ran for two years on NBC as the 80's gave way to the 90's. Keep in mind, as Gulf+Western was rebranding as Paramount Communications, they sold their stake in TriStar because the Nintendo/Hasbro partnerships put Paramount in a conflict of interest since they were the parent company of Sega, which they still own. When Lew Wasserman sold MCA to Comcast, he also sold MCA's stake in TriStar to CBS, giving CBS full control to repurpose TriStar as a full-time secondary label for Columbia Pictures.

This is why even though Habsro and Nintendo have partnered with CBS Discovery full time, the theme park rights to Hasbro and Nintendo's IP's are still in the custody of MCA's successor Peacock. Meanwhile you only see the DC and Columbia-branded IP's at Six Kings parks, which in turn are co-owned by CBS Discovery with Henson.

Captain N could come back, but I might have it run later at night on Oaxis, maybe after Gidget.

My Captain N reboot? Or the original? Cuz if the original is airing in reruns late at night, that makes sense.

But what about my other show idea? Have you given that consideration?

Maou Phenomena right? If you don't mind, I'd like more info on the characters so I can have an idea who can be the English-language voices.

What is the second idea you had for a TTL-exclusive?

Also, do you have a strong presence as to who should do the dubbing?
